1612 Lancashire Witches

Lancaster Castle presents a spellbinding weekend of enchanting family friendly events at the Lancashire Witches Weekend.  The weekend commemorates the Lancashire women imprisoned and tried at the Castle in 1612.

Come and walk with characters of the past and discover the tale of the notorious trails from 400 years ago, experience the story of Demdike in the depths of the infamous Well Tower dungeon or take flight with the Witches Academy and begin your broomstick training.

There is something for everyone, from talks, walks and stalls, to exhibitions and interactive activities in this full weekend of witch themed wonder.

It’s £1 entry per person into the Castle grounds allowing access to the stalls and other activities on offer.

Special ticketed events:

The Pendle Witch Walk – an interactive promenade event:

At the assizes at Lancaster in the August of 1612, some were tried for witchcraft.  But how were they tested? The Pendle Witch Walk returns with a new journey to take you on. Travel back in time on our interactive walk with characters from the past and discover if a witch walks amongst you. Suitable for adults and children 6+.  £8 per person.

Demdike’s Dungeon – join her in the Well Tower aka the Witches dungeon:

Dare you enter the darkness of the Well Tower and discover the diabolical deeds Demdike was accused of.  Join her in the depths of Lancaster Castle for a historical re-enactment, not for the faint heart.  Sit a while as she tells you the tales of her past and the circumstance of her imprisonment in this cell. Suitable 10+.  £3.50 per person.

Broomstick Training – enrol in the academy:

Enrol in the Witches academy with Captain Cragg and Professor Stump as you take your very first tentative steps in the fine art of broomstick flying. Learn all the basics that a novice would need as you take aim for a gold star in your flying proficiency. So take to the sky and sweep away the competition to become top of the class. Suitable for children 4+. £5 per person.

The Little Witch Trail – an adventure awaits:

Take a magical journey around the walls of the castle and help a trainee witch and her friends find the ingredients for a super special spell. Filled with fun and adventure this event is perfect for primary age children and their families. Suitable for children 4+.  £5 (1 free adult ticket with every ticket sold)

Historic tour of the Castle:

Take a historic tour inside the Castle, see the splendid Shire Hall, the Crown Court, Hadrian’s Tower, the Old Cells, the Drop room with our experienced guides and learn more about the Castles dark and interesting history. £8/6.50 per person
