A beautiful, elegant room. The furniture is by Gillow and the ceiling is a wonderful example of the plasterers art, only this time it is painted to look like stone.
Objects within the room
The following objects are located in this room:
Gillow ChairsExtremely fine examples of the work of the Gillow factory.
Made in two batches, 1807 and 1824, each chair has a face carved into the back, making each one unique. One of the finest collections of Gillow in the country. |

Queen VictoriaA special throne-like chair made by Gillows of Lancaster for Queen Victoria's visit to the castle
A very unusual design, this chair was used by the Queen throughout her short stay in 1851. Victoria was entertained with a Loyal Address in the Shire Hall, and after a brief inspection of the castle, she and Prince Albert and three of their children were given lunch in the Grand Jury Room before continuing their journey south by train.
