Objects within the room
The following objects are located in this room:
Billiards TableA fine Regency full size billiards table made by Gillows of Lancaster in 1820 for Norton Hall, Daventry, Northamptonshire.
This billiard table was originally made with an oak bed but it was replaced with slate in the late 1820s.
It is complete with all its accessories which date from the early 1820s, including 2 splendid mahogany tripod cue stands, cues and maces, all made by Gillows of Lancaster. |
 |
Billiards marking boardOriginally part of the billiard accessories for Norton Hall, made by Gillows of Lancaster.
Unusually, this marking board takes the form of a cheval firescreen with sliding panels, shelf and a marking board. |
|
Two cue standsA pair of fine cue stands made by Gillows of Lancaster for Norton Hall, Daventry, Northamptonshire.
They were made as accessories to the full size billiard table and are designed to hold both cues and maces, the fore-runner of the cue.
Although a pair, the two cue stands are not identical. As the dimensions indicate, one is more slender and elegant than the other, and in games between the sexes it would have been used by the lady. |

Secretaire/BookcaseThis outstanding secretaire/bookcase was made by William Maychell of Gillows in 1808.
It was originally comissioned for Standish Hall, near Wigan, at a cost of £22.13s.2d. |
