Objects within the room
The following objects are located in this room:
Pair of Gillow Side CabinetsMade c.1862 for Thomas Preston of Ellel Grange, Lancaster. If you get the opportunity to visit the Judges' Lodgings you can see how the back of the cabinets has been shaped to fit the large skirting boards of Ellel Grange.
The tops are made of amboyna wood – a new, exotic wood used in the mid 19th century.
The two cabinets are very fine examples of the
cabinet-making and inlaying skills of the craftsmen who worked for Gillows in the 1860s.
